Our strength is not of ourselves, for we are sinners. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) Our strength is the Marks of the Church. The marks of the church are these: God's Word, God's Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Each of these are Divine; established by God Himself.

These are the means through which God gives His Grace - namely the free forgiveness of sin earned for us by Jesus Christ. "The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation." (Romans 1:16) Scripture promises that God delivers His Gospel of forgiveness through the Word Holy Scripture, through Baptism and through the Lord's Supper. (Ephesians 5:25, Luke 22:19,20)

These Means of Grace mark the Church. God gathers His Church and communicates Himself through these means, not the strength and wisdom of her members. Therefore God is our strength and we His servants.
